Summertime Vest/Wrap - Free USM Pattern

Naturally Caron.com Joy! (70% Acrylic, 30% Rayon from Bamboo, 2.5oz/70.8g, 138yds/127m)
Shown in: #0007 Aquatica 2 (3) balls.
KEY PLATE
USM/ISM KP 2.5 or appropriate tension to obtain gauge
Suitable for USM/ISM/Bond Classic or 6.5 to 9 mm knitting machine

GAUGE
In 4-Stitch Cable with dropped stitch pattern, 13 sts and 20 rows = 4”/10 cm 

STITCHES USED
4-Stitch Cable with rib and dropped stitch
4-Stitch Cable. Using two 2-prong transfer tools remove sts from ndls 1&2 and 3&4. Place sts 1&2 onto 3&4 and sts 3&4 onto 1&2.  
4-STITCH CABLE WITH RIB AND DROPPED STITCH 
(See photo – the 3 cables along the neckline are cables-with-rib and the others are with the dropped stitches.)
*Starting on very end sts, make 4-Stitch Cables with one st in between across row. (Put all ndls into FWP with latches open before working next row.) K12R. Repeat from * Rib: Drop down and latch up sts from 5th, 10th and 15th ndl on LS every 12 R or as desired. Drop Stitch: Drop down every rem 5th st (between cables) across row foll instructions. 
NOTE: Cross all cables in same direction, either right or left. Be careful to line them up correctly so that dropped sts will unravel properly.)

NEEDLES REQUIRED 74
VEST-WRAP
(NOTE: LS sts are done in cables with ribbing in between and rem sts across row are done in cables with dropped sts in between. Work 4-Stitch Cable with rib and dropped stitch pattern for entire project.)
  • Using closed CO method, CO 74 sts. COR. RC=000.
  • K12R.
  • Start 4-Stitch Cable with rib and dropped stitch: Work to RC=63 (63). COL. Work Cable rib on LS sts and drop down rem sts between cables to CO edge. 
  • Place ladders formed on last row into empty ndls and put ndls in WP with latches open. K2R.
  • **Armhole opening: COL. Cut yarn leaving a 2 yd tail. Manually K first 21 sts, Bind off (back st) next 32 sts and manually K last 21 sts. Start new yarn on LS and manually K first 21 sts, CO next 32 sts and manually K last 21 sts. (Use claw weights on CO sts until you are able to rehang hem.)**
  • Back: Set RC to 067 (067). COR. Cont in pattern so that next cable row will be at RC=072 (072) with COL.
  • Work to RC=122 (146). COL. Work Cable rib on LS sts and drop down rem sts between cables as far as they will go. 
  • Place ladders formed on last row into empty ndls and put ndls in WP with latches open. K2R.
  • Armhole opening: Repeat from ** to ** for second armhole. 
  • Set RC to 126 (150). COR. Cont in pattern so that next cable row will be at RC=132 (156) with COR.
  • Work to RC=191 (215). Finish latching LS ribbing and drop all rem sts between cables as far as they will go. 
  • Bind off (back st) rem live sts.
FINISHING
  • (NOTE: LS ribbing is worn at neck edge of garment.)
  • Weave in ends.
  • Steam very lightly to open pattern.
  • Optional: Using Embellish Knit, make two 18" i-cords to use as shoulder ties.
