Paillette Edged Scarf & Purse - Free USM Pattern

Paillette-Edged Scarf & Purse

TECHNIQUE USED
Paillettes added to purl side of fabric.
FINISHED MEASUREMENT
Approx 5"/12.5 cm wide x 60"/152 cm long 

YARN
Caron International's Simply Soft® (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g, 315yds/288m):Shown in: #0013 Nutmeg 6 oz/170g
KEY PLATE
USM/ISM KP#4 or appropriate tension to obtain gauge
Suitable for USM/ISM/Bond Classic or 6.5 to 9 mm knitting machine

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
400 bronze paillettes (20 mm with 5 mm hole) WY
Yarn needle

GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch with KP #4, 15 sts and 16 rows = 4”/10 cm
KNIT STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st)
NEEDLES REQUIRED 43
NOTE: Scarf is made in two pieces and joined at center back.

SCARF (Follow technique instructions for placing paillettes on PURL side of fabric.)


Using closed CO method, CO 43 sts. COR. RC=000. Leave long end for sewing back seam.
K 2 R.

Paillettes: Following technique instructions, *work across row placing paillettes on every other ndl. Do not place on very end ndls. K 2 R. Work across row staggering paillettes on every other ndl. Do not place on 2 end ndls on ea side. K 2 R. Repeat from * to RC=020.

Take work off machine on WY but do not cut yarn. Turn piece over and rehang so paillettes are facing back.
COL. Set RC to 000. K to RC=096 and cut yarn leaving long piece for seaming or grafting. Take work off on WY.

Make second piece in same manner (leaving long ends is not necessary).

FINISHING
Seam or graft two pieces together.
Weave in ends.

Sew center back seam. Tack bottom ends closed.

PURSE WITH PAILLETTE FLAP


TECHNIQUE USED

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
100 bronze paillettes (20 mm with 5 mm hole) Single prong transfer tool

Yarn needle

1/3 yard lining fabric
Snap or flap closure
Sewing needle and matching thread Optional: Felt or batting for inner lining

PURSE (Follow technique instructions for placing paillettes on PURL side of fabric.)

Using closed CO method and KP #4, CO 13 sts. COR. RC=000.
K 2 R.
Shape flap: Inc 1 st ea side ER 10 times to 33 sts. (NOTE: On paillette rows, inc sts before hanging paillettes.)

Paillettes: AT SAME TIME, following technique instructions, *work across row placing
paillettes on every other ndl. Do not place on very end ndls. K 2 R. Work across row staggering paillettes on every other ndl. (To keep staggered pattern, do not place on either 1 or 2 end ndls on ea side.) K 2 R. Repeat from * to RC=018.
Take work off machine on WY but do not cut yarn. Turn piece over and rehang so paillettes are facing back.

Purse body: Change to KP #2.5. COL. Set RC to 000. Inc 7 sts beg next 2 rows - 47 sts. K to RC=094.
BO.


FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Fold sides of purse to inside and tack down using needle and thread. (Optional: Lay a piece of felt or batting between the folded sides for extra body. Tack lightly in place.) Lining. Open paillette flap so purse is one straight piece. Cut lining the size of the purse, allowing 1/2"/1.25 cm extra on all sides. Turn the 1/2"/1.25 cm lining allowance to wrong side and iron down. Pin lining to purse with wrong sides together and sew using needle and thread.
Fold up bottom of purse and pin sides so that flap folds properly in place. Seam sides. Make a 50-60"/127-152.5 cm twisted cord, braid or I-cord for strap and tack in place on sides and bottom of purse.

Add snap or other closure to flap.
