Paillette Scarf - Free USM Pattern

TECHNIQUE USED
Paillettes added to knit side of fabric.

Approx 5"/12.5 cm wide x 58"/147.5 cm long
YARN
Caron International's Simply Soft® (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g, 315yds/288m): Shown in: #9727 Black 6 oz/170g
KEY PLATE
USM/ISM KP #4 or appropriate tension to obtain gauge Suitable for USM/ISM/Bond Classic or 6.5 to 9 mm knitting machine
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
75 silver paillettes (20 mm with 5 mm hole) Single prong transfer tool
WY
Yarn needle

OPTIONAL
Row counter
GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch with KP #4, 15 sts and 16 rows = 4”/10 cm
STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st)
SCARF (Follow technique instructions for placing paillettes on KNIT side of fabric.)
COR. Using WY, CO 43 sts. K 6 R. Break off. Change to MY. Leave long end for sewing back seam.
K 2 R.
Paillette (random) pattern: *K 6 R. Select 4 ndls randomly across row and add paillettes. K 8 R. Select 4 ndls randomly across row and add paillettes. Repeat from * three additional times and K 1 R. RC=059.

St st: K to RC=110. Take off on WY leaving end for seaming or grafting. Make second piece in same manner (leaving long ends is not necessary).
FINISHING
Seam or graft two pieces (ends without paillettes).
Remove WY but leave WY on other ends.
Sew center back seam.
Weave in ends.
Cut a 15"/38 cm piece of yarn. Using yarn needle, weave it through live sts on one end and remove WY. Gather tightly and secure. Do the same for other end.

Tassels. Cut a piece of yarn 4 yds/3.65 m long. Thread 5 paillettes on yarn. Wrap around a 2 1/2"/6.5 cm piece of cardboard moving a paillette to bottom every 5 wraps. Cut a 10"/25.5 cm piece of yarn, tie top tightly and remove from cardboard. Tie another piece of yarn approx 1"/2.5 cm from top. Do not cut loops. Make one to attach to ea end.
