MATERIALS
7 (7, 8, 8) 170g/6-oz skeins of Caron International’s Simply Soft (100% Acrylic ) in #9727 Black (MC);
8 175-oz balls of Caron International’s Glimmer (85% Acrylic, 15% Polyester) in #0019, Charcoal (CC);
5 stitch holders
hand sewing needle
black sewing thread
tapestry needle
size H-8 (5mm) crochet hook
GAUGE
18 sts and 23 rows = 4” in St st using #US 7 (4.5mm) needles or KP2 (MC)
11 sts and 14 rows = 4” in St st using #US 10 (6mm) needles or KP3 every other ndl (CC)                                                
NUMBER OF USM NEEDLES REQUIRED
106 (114, 122, 133)
BACK
  1. COR.  Using KP2, CO 106 (114, 122, 133) sts in WY using open edge method.  Work 6 rows.  
  2. RC=000.  Change to MC and dec 1 st each side every 24 rows 2 times, then 1 st each side every 26 rows 7 times – 88 (96, 104, 115) sts.
  3. Work to RC=246 (258, 256, 266).  Reset RC to 000.
  4. Shape armholes:  BO 5 (5, 5, 6) sts beg next 2 rows.  Dec 1 st each side every other row 9 (10, 12, 14) times – 60 (66, 70, 75) sts.  Work to RC=058 (058, 060, 060).
  5. Shape shoulders:  Using short row shaping BO 6 sts beg next 2 (6, 4, 4) rows, then 5 (0, 7, 10) sts beg next 4 (0, 2, 2) rows.
  6. BO rem 28 (30, 32, 31) sts.
  7. Ribbing:  COL.  Bring forward 105 (113, 121, 133) needles to HP and pick up as many sts from first row MC.  Work 6 rows and drop and latch to form 1x1 ribbing.  End COL.  BO.
FRONT (Make 2 reversing shaping on second front.) 
Note: There is a 15 st facing along the center front of coat that is knitted at the same time with a purl st as a turning st.
  1. COR.  Using KP2, CO 68 (72, 76, 81) sts (which includes 14 sts of facing and 1 turning st – as you knit, drop and latch up the turning st about every 20 rows) in WY using open edge method.  Work 6 rows.  
  2. RC=000.  Change to MC and dec 1 st on right side every 24 rows 2 times then every 26 rows 7 times – 59 (63, 67, 72) sts.
  3. Work to RC=246 (258, 256, 266).  Reset RC to 000.
  4. Shape armholes:  Note: Put 15 sts of facing plus one extra st onto WY.  Dec for right side armhole as for back – 45 (48, 50, 52) sts.
  5. AT THE SAME TIME and at the same row of armhole shaping, shape front neck.  Dec 1 st neck edge every 4 rows 14 times. Work to RC=058 (058, 060, 060).
  6. Shape shoulders:  BO as for back.
  7. Ribbing:  COL.  Bring forward 67 (71, 75, 81) needles to HP and pick up as many sts from first row MC.  Work 6 rows and drop and latch to form 1x1 ribbing.  End COL.  BO.
  8. Facing:  Put 16 sts from WY on needles and cont working dropping and latching up turning st (the extra st to the side of this one will be the edge or seaming st) until the facing is as long as the front.  Note: There will need to be 2 rows of short row shaping at the shoulder edge.  BO.
SLEEVES
  1. COR.  Using KP2, CO 65 sts in WY using open edge method.  Work 6 rows.
  2. Set RC to 000.  Change to MC and inc 1 st each side every 23 (14, 13, 10) rows 3 (6, 7, 5) times, then 1 st each side every 0 (0, 0, 11) rows 0 (0, 0, 4) times – 71 (77, 79, 83) sts.  RC = 069 (084, 091, 094).  Work to RC=092 (098, 104, 104).
  3. Shape cap:  BO 5 (5, 5, 6) sts beg next 2 rows.  Dec 1 st each side every row 4 (7, 7, 7) times, then 1 st each side every other row 13 (9, 10, 11) times, then 1 st each side every row 4 (7, 7, 7) times.  RC=128 (132, 140, 142).
  4. BO rem 19 (21, 21, 21) sts.
  5. Ribbing:  COL.  Bring forward 65 needles to HP and pick up as many sts from first row MC.  Work 6 rows and drop and latch up to form 1x1 ribbing.  End COL.  BO.  
BACK FACING
  1. COR.  Using KP2, CO 40 (40, 40, 41) sts in MC using closed edge method.   
  2. RC=000.  Inc 1 st each side every row 7 (8, 9, 8) times – 54 (56, 58, 57) sts.
  3. Work 8 (7, 6, 7) rows even.  
  4. Using short row shaping BO 7 sts beg next 2 rows, then 6 sts beg next 2 rows.  RC=017
  5. BO rem 28 (30, 32, 31) sts.  
GLIMMER TRIM (Make 4 trim pieces - using CC on every other needle with KP3.)
  1. Cuffs (2):  CO 9 sts using closed edge method and CC and work 52 rows.  Put on WY
  2. Bottom: CO 17 sts using closed edge method and CC and work 170 (183, 193, 210) rows.  Put on WY
  3. Front:  Measure around coat working 6” up from both bottom edges.  CO 9 sts using closed edge method and CC and work to measurement.  Put on WY.
     (WY is used so rows can be added or eliminated for exact fit to coat.)
FINISHING
  1. Block to finished dimensions.
  2. Attached fronts to back at shoulders.
  3. Sew sleeve tops to armholes, easing to fit.
  4. Sew side and sleeve seams.
  5. Seam back facing to coat back.
  6. Seam front facings along V neck.
  7. Turn all facings to inside and attach front and back facings at seams.  Tack down facings with sewing thread.
  8. Tack Glimmer trim pieces to bottom of sleeves, bottom of coat and front of coat with sewing thread.  (Trim goes on top of knitting.)
  9. Weave in all loose ends.
OPTIONAL POCKET (make 2)
Horizontal Inset Pocket is 5” (22 sts) across top - finished with 1 row sc in CC.
Pocket Lining is 22 sts wide by 52 rows in MC.

These instructions were made “after the fact” without the finished sample so I do not have the pocket placement information.  Please measure for placement and complete instructions.
