MATERIALSCaron International’s Simply Soft® Quick (100% acrylic ) in #0011 Soft Pink, 9 (11, 13) 85.1g/3-oz skeins
Caron International’s Simply Soft® (100% acrylic) in #9727 Black (tie), 1 170g/6-oz skein 
KEYPLATES
USM KP#2 (tie) for Simply Soft, KP#3 (neckline) and
USM KP#4 (sweater body) for Simply Soft Quick or size to obtain gauge.
Suitable for USM/ISM/Bond Classic or 6.5 to 9 mm knitting machine. 
GAUGE
Using USM/ISM KP#4 or appropriate tension setting, 11 sts and 16 ½ rows = 4” in st st using KP4 on EON and Simply Soft Quick; 18 sts and 23 rows = 4” in seed stitch using #US 7 needles or KP2 and Simply Soft
STITCH PATTERN
Seed stitch for tie only
Seed Stitch:           
R1 - *K1, P1; rep from * to end.
R2 - *P1, K1; rep from * to end.
Repeat 2 rows for pattern           
NUMBER OF USM NEEDLES REQUIRED – 108 (120, 128)
FRONT & BACK
  1. Using KP4, CO 54 (60, 64) sts on EON with closed edge method. Set RC to 000.
  2. Work 2 rows.
  3. Dec 1 st each end of next row and again at row 32 (34, 34) – 50 (56, 60) sts.  
  4. Work even until RC = 050 (054, 054).
  5. Shape armhole:  BO 2 (2, 3) sts at beg of next 2 rows.  Dec 1 st at each end of EOR 4 (6, 6) times.  Cont until RC = 060 (064, 068) - 38 (40, 42) sts.
  6. Shape neck:  Thread center 12 sts to WY – 13 (14, 15) sts each side.
  7. Put LH ndls in HP.  Dec 1 st at neck edge ER 7 (7, 8) times – 6 (7, 7) sts.  Work 17 (17, 16) rows.  RC = 084 (088, 092).
  8. BO rem sts. 
  9. Work left neck as for right neck, rev shapings.
SLEEVES
  1. Using KP4, CO 24 (26, 28) sts on EON with closed edge method. Set RC to 000.
  2. Inc 1 st at each end of every 10th row twice, then every 11th row twice - 32 (34, 36) sts. RC = 042.
  3. Work even to RC = 052.
  4. Shape cap.  BO 2 (2, 3) sts at beg of next 2 rows.  Dec 1 st each end of every 3 (2, 3) rows 8 (2, 4) times.  Then dec 0 (1, 1) st each end of every 0 (3, 4) rows 0 (6, 1) time(s) and then dec 0 (1, 1) st each end of every 0 (2, 3) rows 0 (1, 4) time(s).  RC = 078 (078, 082).
  5. BO rem 12 sts.
NECKLINE (done in two pieces)
  1. Working on EON, bring out 50 ndls to HP.  With wrong side of work facing, rehang 19 sts from right back neck edge, 12 sts from back neck holder, 19 sts from left back neck edge.  Set RC to 000. 
  2. Use KP3 and  work 5 rows.
  3. Row 6 - make eyelets: Starting on the 3rd ndl from the end and then every 5th ndl - transfer that st to the ndl on the right – 10 eyelets.  Put the empty ndls in WP and work 1 row.
  4. Work 2 rows. RC = 008.  
  5. BO loosely.
  6. Work in the same manner for the front neckline.
TIE
  1. Using KP2 and black Simply Soft, CO 8 sts with closed edge method. Work in Seed st.  Set RC to 000.
  2. Inc 1 st on RS EOR 7 times – 15 sts.  RC = 014.
  3. Work until RC = 100
  4. Dec 1 st each side EOR 5 times – 5 sts.  RC = 110.  Reset RC to 000.
  5. Work until RC = 235.  Reset RC to 000.
  6. Inc 1 st each side EOR 5 times – 15 sts.  RC = 010.
  7. Work to RC = 095.
  8. Dec 1 st on RS EOR 7 times – 8 sts.  RC = 119.
  9. BO in pattern.
FINISHING

  1. Sew shoulder seams.  Sew sleeve tops to armholes.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
  2. Weave in all loose ends.
  3. Work one row SC around sleeve bottoms, neckline and sweater bottom.
  4. Insert tie through eyelets following picture and tie into a bow.
