Designed by Kathy PerryThis wonderful holiday sweater is both fashionable and versatile.  The holly motif is done as a cross-stitch!

FINISHED BUST MEASUREMENTS:  S (M, L, XL) - 38”/97cm (42”/107cm, 44”/112cm, 48”/122cm)


SIZESS (to fit bust 30/32”—76/81cm)
M (to fit bust 34/36”— 86/91cm)           
L (to fit bust 38/40”— 97/102cm)
XL (to fit bust 42/44”— 107/112cm)

MATERIALS
Caron International's Simply Soft 6 oz skeins:
#002  Cream (color A) 4 (5, 5, 6) skeins    
#029  Dk Sage (color B) 2 (3, 3, 3) skeins    
#008  Autumn Red  (color C) 1(1, 1, 1) skeins 
TECHNIQUES
Fair Isle;  Embroidery

TENSION
Using keyplate 2 in Fair Isle:  18 sts & 26 rows = 4"/10cm.
SAVE TIME AND TROUBLE; 
BE SURE TO CHECK GAUGE!
NOTES
Number of needles to knit cardigan: 129 (for all sizes).

BACK
COR.  Using the open edge cast on method and WY, CO 85 (95, 103, 113).  K6R.  Break off.  Change to color B.  K1R.  Join colors as indicated on Chart A.  Center design and work out sideways on each side; this keeps your patt centered no matter what size you are knitting.  K until 66R.  With color A, K until 182R.

Shape Shoulders and Neck
Remove center 27 (29, 31, 33) sts on WY.  Remove 29 (33, 36, 40) shoulder sts on WY.

Ribbing
COL.  Bring forward 85 (95, 103, 113) ndls to HP and pick up as many sts along 1st R color B.  With color B, K12R.  Drop and latch up every other st to form 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

RIGHT FRONTCOR.  Using the open edge cast on method and WY, CO 39 (44, 48, 53) sts.  K6R.  Break off.  Change to color B, K1R.  Join colors as indicated on Chart A.  K until 66R.  With color A, K until 160R. 
Shaped Neck
Place 3 (4, 5, 6) sts at neck edge onto WY.  36 (40, 43, 47) sts rem.  K2R.  Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and every other R 7x total – 29 (33, 36, 40) sts rem.  K until 182R.  Remove 29 (33, 36, 40) shoulder sts on WY.

Ribbing
COL.  Bring forward 39 (45, 49, 53) ndls to HP and pick up as many sts along 1st R color B, inc 1 st at center for 2nd and 3rd sizes.  With color B, K12R.  Convert to 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

LEFT FRONT
Work as Right Front reversing all shapings.

SLEEVES
COR.  Using the open edge cast on method and WY, CO 45 (49, 55, 55) sts.  K6R.  Break off.  With color B, K1R.  Beg on R42, join colors as indicated on Chart A.  K6R, inc 1 st each end of next and every foll 5th R 4x total – 53 (57, 63, 63) sts.  Work R66.  Change to color A, K1R.  Inc 1 st each end of next and every foll 5th R 14 (16, 17, 17)x total – 81 (89, 97, 97) sts.  K until 104 (110, 116, 116)R total.  Remove rem 81 (89, 97, 97) sts on WY.

Ribbing
COL.  Bring forward 45 (49, 55, 55) ndls to HP and pick up as many sts along 1st R color B.  With color B, K6R.  Convert 5R to 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

BUTTON BAND
COL.  Bring forward 129 ndls to HP and with WS of Left Front facing, pick up as many sts along front edge as foll: 9 sts along rib and 120 sts along straight edge.  With color A, K6R.  Convert 5R to 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

BUTTONHOLE BORDER
Work as given for Button Band until 3R.  Convert 2R to 1x1 rib.  Make eyelet st on 3rd, 18th and then every foll 15th ndl 7x total = 9 buttonholes.  K until 6R.  Convert to 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

NECKBAND
Sew both shoulder seams.  COL.  Bring forward 75 (79, 83, 87) ndls to HP and WS of garment facing, pick up 5 sts along band, 3 (4, 5, 6) sts along front neck, 16 sts up side of neck, 27 (29, 31, 33) sts along back of neck, 16 sts down side of neck, 3 (4, 5, 6) sts along front of neck and 5 sts along band - 75 (79, 83, 87) sts.  With color A, K3R.  Convert to 1x1 rib.  Make eyelet st on 4th st from LHS.  K until 10R.  Convert to 1x1 rib.  Next R, K making eyelet st on 4th st from LHS.  K until 14R.  Convert to 1x1 rib.  BO in backstitch.

FINISHING
Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.  Fold neckband in half to WS and sew in place.  Sew neckband and buttonhole edges.  Sew on buttons.

EMBROIDERY
Thin yarn to 2 strands and embroider holly leaves, stems, and berries as shown on Chart B.
